The District Court of Munich ruled in favour of Qualcomm, deciding that Apple had infringed a hardware patent of the US chipmaker, Reuters reports. Only those iPhone models have been pulled from stores that use chips from Intel and Apple supplier Qorvo. Following the ruling, Apple said it would pull iPhone 7 and iPhone 8 models in 15 stores in Germany, but all iPhone models will continue to be available at third-party retailers in the country. Additionally, the newer iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max and iPhone XR models will still be sold in Germany.
"Two respected courts in two different jurisdictions just in the past two weeks have now confirmed the value of Qualcomm's patents and declared Apple an infringer, ordering a ban on iPhones in the important markets of Germany and China," Don Rosenberg, Qualcomm's general counsel, said in a statement.q
Apple and Qualcomm have been in a two-year-long battle that started with the Cupertino giant accusing the US chipmaker of overcharging prices of its modem chips. Qualcomm since then has been launching a number of lawsuits against Apple, but has also suffered a series of setbacks in its fight against US antitrust regulators.
